Meet The SmashFit Advisory Panel

SmashFits's Advisory Panel is comprised of a team of experts from different areas of fitness. Each brings a lifelong commitment to fitness and a level of experience and expertise which is outstanding in their field. The Advisory Panel will consult with our SmashFit executives to review and recommend any necessary changes and to ensure the safety and protection of participating members and clients. They will also evaluate and provide strategic and technical advice.

Julia Yarbough

Julia Yarbough joined the NBC 6 team in April 1998, as a general assignment reporter. An Emmy Award Winning journalist, Yarbough currently co- anchors the NBC 6 News at 6 p.m. with Tony Segreto and the CW News at Ten.

Julia came to NBC 6 from KCBS-TV in Los Angeles where she served as weekend anchor and general assignment reporter. Prior to that, she worked in South Florida at WSVN-TV as morning and noon anchor. Julia began her career as an intern at KEYS-TV in Santa Barbara, Calif. before landing a reporting position in Pensacola, Fla., then moving to Louisville, Kentucky as anchor and reporter. Julia hold's a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics from the University of California at Santa Barbara. She also studied at Richmond College in London, England.

Named Best Female Anchor by the Broward New Times in 2005, Julia's work has earned her professional and personal recognition. She is the recipient of an N.A.T.A.S. Emmy for the 2005 production of "South Florida 's Living Legacy." Julia's other journalism awards include the 2001 "Sunshine State Award" from the Society of Professional Journalists for "Special Places," a look at the inclusion of minorities in the National Park System and "Rails to Trails," an overview of the overseas heritage trail in the Florida Keys. Julia also received the Florida Historical Society's Best Documentary Award for "Port of Pensacola" as well as a Community Service Award from the Pensacola Rape Crisis Center.

During her career, Julia has had the opportunity to cover a number of major stories and events, most recently traveling to Torino, Italy for the 2006 Winter Olympics. Other big stories include the John Glenn 1998 Space Shuttle Discovery launch, Hurricane Georges in Puerto Rico and the Florida Keys, an environmental segment showcasing The Galapagos Islands, Ecuador, taking a flight with the U.S. Air Force, Thunderbirds and having a one-on-one interview with Music Superstars Daryl Hall & John Oates, as well as appearing in the 2006 Summer blockbuster, "Miami Vice," directed by Michael Mann.

When not chasing news, Julia, a native of Fairfield, California, stays busy with various community organizations and personal athletic pursuits. Julia serves as an advisory Board Member for the Fort Lauderdale Children's Theatre, serves as a hostess for the "Steinway Piano Gallery" talent showcase event, often serves as Hostess/Emcee for various community functions, serves as an advisory board member for the local volunteer organization, Hands On Miami, and is a founding member of the MBC, The Miami Beach Cinematheque, and has hosted the NBC6/T51 Health & Fitness Expo half-hour special for three years.

In keeping with Julia’s interest in physical fitness, she serves as an ADVISORY BOARD MEMBER for the nationally based fitness website smashfit.com, which matches those interested in pursuing fitness with an appropriate physical trainer. Julia loves the outdoors and is also a contributing writer to “South Florida Adventures Magazine (southfloridaadventures.com) highlighting activities and adventures found right here in our own backyards. Julia has recently joined the team of writers with "South Florida Times" (sfltimes.com) bringing readers a similar glimpse into South Florida's outdoor treasures. Health, fitness, physical activity and travel are Julia's passions. Her interests include kayaking, running, weight training, snorkeling, skiing and biking. Julia has completed a half-marathon (13.1 miles) for the American Diabetes Association, several Duathalons and has twice completed the MS 150 bike ride for the National Multiple Sclerosis Society.

When not working or working-out, Julia is either cooking or pouring over travel magazines researching the next adventure-travel location to explore! Julia is also studying French and Spanish while pouring over travel brochures looking for the next adventure.

Kristal Richardson

Kristal Richardson, an IFBB Professional Figure Competitor, is the Co-Owner of BodyWell Nutrition as well as the spokesperson and product developer for the Tight Curves female product line. A midwest native, Kristal earned her Bachelors degree from Hillsdale College in Michigan before moving to Miami, Florida in 1998 to pursue a career opportunity and attend FIU (Florida International University) to earn her MBA in Marketing and Communications.

In 2006, Kristal competed in her first Figure competition and won the Overall Title, qualifying her for national competition. Her very next show, that same year, was the North American Figure Championships where she won her class, and earned her Pro card, raising her to Professional athlete status. Throughout her professional competition career, Kristal has consistently placed in the top 10 at every Pro level show and took seventh at the 2008 Olympia, the highest esteemed competition among Pro competitors.

Kristal has both been on the cover, and inside, numerous fitness magazines, including Oxygen, and has made numerous TV appearances around the country talking about fitness and BodyWell Nutrition.

Always active in sports, Kristal earned her ACE certification and began her own Personal Training business along with health and nutrition counseling.

A proud mother of two chocolate labs, Kristal is a devoted animal lover. She also loves to travel, hang with friends and family, cook, and spend time outdoors.


Dr. David Ryan

Dr. Ryan is the Medical Director of the Arnold Fitness Weekend and is on the Medical Advisory Board for Muscle and Fitness Magazine. His work is found on websites such as Bodybuilding.com, FlexmagazineOnLine.com, Elitefitnesssystems.com, Strengthpro.com, Labrada.com, SmashFit.com and many others. Dr. Ryan's original positions were with the Ohio State University as a Strength and Conditioning Supervisor and he obtained his degree in exercise physiology. His doctorate is from Palmer University in Iowa and he currently practices today in Columbus, Ohio. He has coached several NFL, NHL teams and other lower divisional teams. He specializes in hypo/hypergravitational forces on the human body and worked with the US Air Force for developing the biological envelope of fighter pilots. He has played two professional sports, soccer and rugby and held three world records.

Matt Heringer

Matt Heringer is the owner of Impact Sports Fitness Group, he has been in the fitness business for over 15 years working with professional athletes in the NFL, MLB, former WUSA League, Tennis, and many other sports. As well, Matt has helped hundreds of general fitness clients to tone up and lose weight in the places that count the most. Over the course of those years Matt has refined many different methods of training to maximize results for the individual client. Fitness is a puzzle, it is just a matter of finding the correct pieces of that puzzle to get things moving in the right direction and have success. When it comes to fitness it needs to be fun and entertaining, otherwise you are doomed to failure.


Bill Neylon

Bill Neylon has been a competitive bodybuilder with the NPC (National Physique Committee) for 19 years earning 12 masters overall titles and 9 open lightweight titles. Bill has also been a Florida State judge for the NPC for 13 years officiating at Bodybuilding, Figure, and Fitness Competitions. As Vice Chairman of NPC Florida South District for the past 4 years, Bill brings his expertise in bodybuilding as well as 22 years as an ACE certified personal trainer. A devoted Irishman, Bill resides in West Palm Beach Florida. There, he is owner of the Fitness Edge, a one-on-one personal training facility that he has run successfully for 16 years.


Lisa Dorfman

Lisa Dorfman, MS, RD, CSSD, LMHC a Board Certified Specialist in Sports Dietetics and a Board Certified Professional Counselor, has been a leader in the health care field for more than two decades working with professional, world and national class athletes and clients worldwide. Since 2003, she has taught in the University of Miami Department of Exercise and Sports Science and has also been the Sports Nutritionist for the UM Athletic Department, teaching and counseling hundreds of athletes, some onto NCAA, Olympic and world titles. Lisa is personal nutritionist for many professional athletes, including those in the NFL, MLB, PGA, USTA and is the US Sailing Olympic and Paralympics Team Nutritionist.

Since 1983, Lisa has built a diverse portfolio of experiences including: a clinical career in over 15 hospitals and medical centers; corporate programs at numerous Fortune 500 and major financial, law public and private institutions; a Legally Lean © career with the Federal Correctional System, Metro-Dade Police, US Department of Customs, and for The Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA),and a culinary expertise teaching at Johnson and Wales University and consulting to chefs and staff worldwide at Sandals Resorts, Ritz Carlton, Doral Saturnia, and Bitter End Resorts in the BVI .

Lisa is a sought after media spokesperson for TV, radio and print campaigns. She is the author of four book, numerous magazine articles, and book chapters, is Nutrition Editor and an Advisory Board Member for SoBeFit Magazine, and a nutrition columnist for South Florida Adventures Magazine. She has also been an ongoing educator, counselor and coach to the USOC, USAT&F, USAT, USTA and The American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM). She was selected by her colleagues as Recognized Dietitian of the Year and has been named to Who's Who in American Women.

Known nationally as “The Running Nutritionist™,” Lisa is a competitive runner and triathlete who has competed in more than 34 marathons, IronmanUSA Lake Placid, dozens of half marathons and 1/2 ironmans, and hundreds of running and multisport races. In 2004, she competed for the United States on Team USA at the World Long Distance Duathlon Championships. Lisa resides in Miami, Florida with her husband of 26 years and three children, Rebecca 21, Danielle 19 and Joseph 17.
