The Best Addiciton
By: Julia Yarbough
"What would you do if you couldn't exercise and take part in physical activities?"
Many years ago a friend asked me that very question. I must confess I
didn't have an answer then and I don't have an answer now. Because the
truth is, I can’t imagine my life void of some component of fitness and
exercise, not only for my body but also for my mind. Simply put, I LOVE
everything about training and working out. The way my body feels. The
way my energy level spikes once the endorphins get pumping. The way my
skin looks after a long, sweat-inducing run; the slight tightness and
soreness in your muscles once completing a set of weights. How deeply I
sleep when my body and mind are fully exhausted. The list goes on and
on! One of my goals here at SMASHFIT is to encourage and inspire
as many of you as possible to fall in love with health and fitness as
much as I and everyone on our team, and bring you many of the FANTASTIC
stories our clients have to share! So who is Julia Yarbough and
why should any of you care what I have to say? Easy. Because after more
than 20 years of devoting much of my free time to pursuing exercise,
fitness and good health, I have acquired a wealth of knowledge and
first hand experience that I want to share with all of you! Let me tell
you a little about myself. I'm proud to tell anyone who asks I
am 42 years old! In real life, my full time profession is a news
anchor/reporter in the Miami Market. I've spent 20 years chasing news
and telling stories here in the States and overseas, hosting events,
attending black-tie gala events and spending my nights "glammed-up" and
in front of a camera for millions of viewers. I love my career! But my
personal passion is fitness. I am a life long competitive athlete,
beginning with gymnastics at age 6 until 18, volleyball in my early
teens, evolving to weightlifting and aerobics in my early 20's, then
eventually transitioning to running and bicycling in my mid-30's. I
have completed a number of 5k's, duathlons, twice finished the MS 150
Charity Bike event, and regularly visit my local gym four to five days
a week for weightlifting and cardio-vascular exercise of either running
or climbing stairs for at least 30 minutes. Outside of my regular week
routine, I also kayak (recreational), snow-ski (honestly, I’m mediocre
at this) and have also water-skiing (again –mediocre) wind-sailing,
snorkeling, and tennis. Simply put, if it's a sport, I will try it at
least once! When people ask me, "What do you like to do?" I often answer, "Exercise." "No, I mean, what do you do in your spare time?" "I work out. I love it."
Some might call me crazy. Others might suspect I am fibbing. It’s
neither. There is almost nothing I love more than spending my time
exercising and pursuing an athletic/fitness endeavor. You could call it
an addiction. But in this case, there’s nothing I would rather be
addicted to! So, as we move forward and share with you the
amazing, wonderful and inspirational stories of individuals – just like
yourselves – who are making the commitment to themselves and their
health and fitness, we hope to inspire you. Encourage you. And motivate
you to become the absolute best you can be and have tons of fun along
the way!!
