Yes, I have plateaued
By: Heather Frey
Dear Heather, Yes, I have plateaued, and I am not going anywhere. I walk and do light core and cardio. My walking is a real brisk walk and I slow jog as well. I have to be careful as I have a few medical issues with my legs.I understand some of this is due to age ( I am 57!!) and the weight loss. Any help you could give me I would greatly appreciate. Thanks!!

Dear Wyndy, Plateaus are hard and are where a lot of people give up... but don't! Without knowing too much about you or your workouts, let me give some general advice...
Your body is used to your walks..your phyicality has gotten much better (it's just not hard for you anymore) and your body has simply adapted. Once it's adapted, it stops changing. Try to find new ways to change it up. One way is to UP your intensity (with a Dr.'s approval of course) by walking faster...get a good sweat going. Do you have access to a gym or club house that has bikes or elliptical machines? Bikes are great and take the pressure off your legs. If not, maybe look into some classes. In order to break through your plateau, you have to SHOCK the system...kick it's butt into moving again. REVing up your cardio also REVS up your metabolism! And don't forget about your nutrition..could you tweak that as well? You'd be surprised the improvements from a well placed sweet potato. |
